Lage der Provinz Mashonaland West in Simbabwe
Mashonaland West ist eine Provinz Simbabwes. Sie hat eine Gesamtfläche von 57.441 km² und 1,2 Millionen Einwohner (2002). Ihre Hauptstadt Chinhoyi.
West-Mashonaland ist ein sehr gegensätzliches Gebiet. Der nördliche Teil mit dem Sambesi-Steilhang ist unwirtlich, sehr dünn bis völlig unbesiedelt, lebensfeindlich und als Nationalpark ausgewiesen. Der südliche Teil ist fruchtbar, dicht besiedelt, agrarisch intensiv genutzt und mit vielen Kleinstädten (Kadoma, Chinhoyi, Norton, Chegutu, Muzvezve). Er liegt zudem nahe bei Harare und damit am wichtigsten Absatzmarkt des Landes. Der nördliche Teil hingegen verfügt nur über die Kariba-Talsperre, die dieser Gegend jedoch keinerlei Wohlstand einbringt, da sie von Harare aus verwaltet wird. Größere Orte im Nordteil sind Kariba und Karoi.
