Muhammad al-Fazari

Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Habib al-Fazari (arabisch ‏أبو عبدالله محمد بن إبراهيم بن حبيب الفزاري‎, DMG Abū ʿAbdallāh Muḥammad bin Ibrāhīm bin Ḥabīb al-Fazārī; † 796 oder 806) war ein muslimischer Philosoph, Mathematiker und Astronom.

Sein Vater, Ibrahim al-Fazari, war ebenfalls Astronom und Mathematiker. Einige Quellen bezeichnen ihn als Araber, andere als Perser. al-Fazari übersetzte viele wissenschaftliche Bücher ins Arabische und Persische. Er soll das erste Astrolabium in der islamischen Welt gebaut haben.

Er half seinem Vater und Yaqub ibn Tariq bei der Übersetzung der indischen astronomischen Texte Brahmasphutasiddhanta des Brahmagupta ins Arabische. Damit wurden möglicherweise die Hindu-Zahlen in die islamische Welt übertragen. [1]
