Der Musculus temporalis (lat.: Schläfenmuskel) ist ein Skelettmuskel und gehört zur Gruppe der Kaumuskeln.

Funktion

Der Musculus temporalis hebt den Unterkiefer an und schließt damit den Kiefer. Außerdem ziehen seine dorsalen (rückwärtigen) Fasern den Unterkiefer zurück und wirken damit antagonistisch zum Musculus pterygoideus lateralis. Die Innervation erfolgt durch die Nervi temporales profundi aus dem Nervus mandibularis, dem dritten Hauptast des Nervus trigeminus, also des 5. Hirnnervs.
