Run Off (Boys) ist ein US-amerikanisches Filmdrama von Stacy Cochran aus dem Jahr 1996. Stacy Cochran schrieb das Drehbuch anhand der Kurzgeschichte Twenty Minutes von James Salter.

Handlung

John Baker Jr wohnt in einem Internat und steht kurz vor dem Schulabschluss. Er findet eines Tages eine bewußtlose Reiterin, die einen Unfall hatte. Baker kümmert sich um sie und lernt sie näher kennen. Er erfährt, dass ihr Name Patty Vare ist und dass sie auf der Flucht vor der Polizei ist.

Da Baker einige Regeln des Internats verletzt, soll er suspendiert werden. Vare taucht unter als die Polizei nach ihr fragt.

Kritiken

James Berardinelli schrieb auf ReelView, die Filmautoren möchten das Publikum glauben lassen, der Film sei eine Liebesgeschichte. Run Off beinhalte jedoch nicht viele Emotionen und wirke „apathisch“. Das Publikum bleibe auf Distanz zu den Charakteren, für die es nichts empfinde. Der Film sei derart „schwerfällig“ und „dämlich“, dass man es kaum glauben könne.[1]

Das Lexikon des internationalen Films schrieb, der Film sei ein „geradlinig erzählter Jugendfilm“, der „realistisch in der Darstellung des Internatsmilieus und sensibel in der Annäherung der Jugendlichen“ sei. Die guten Leistungen der Hauptdarsteller würden „passable Unterhaltung“ sichern.[2]

Hintergrund

Der Film wurde in Baltimore und im St. John's College in Annapolis (Maryland) gedreht.[3] Er spielte in den Kinos der USA etwa 516.000 US-Dollar ein.[4]
