Sabarmati bei Ahmedabad

Der Sabarmati ist ein Fluss im westlichen Indien mit einer Länge von etwa 371 km.

Er entspringt im Aravalligebirge im Bundesstaat Rajasthan, fließt dann die längste Strecke durch den Bundesstaat Gujarat, erreicht die Millionenstadt Ahmedabad und mündet in den Golf von Khambhat.

In Ahmedabad, am Ufer dieses Flusses, errichtete Mahatma Gandhi den Sabarmati-Ashram als Wohnsitz und begann von hier aus im Jahre 1930 seinen gewaltlosen Salzmarsch im Kampf gegen die britischen Kolonialherren.
