Edward Peter Cullen

Edward Peter Cullen (* 15. März 1933 in Philadelphia) ist Altbischof von Allentown.

Leben

Der Erzbischof von Philadelphia, John Joseph Krol, weihte ihn am 19. Mai 1962 zum Priester und wurde in den Klerus des Erzbistums Philadelphia inkardiniert. Johannes Paul II. ernannte ihn am 8. Februar 1994 zum Weihbischof in Philadelphia und Titularbischof von Paria in Proconsolare.

Die Bischofsweihe spendete ihm der Erzbischof von Philadelphia, Anthony Joseph Kardinal Bevilacqua, am 14. April desselben Jahres; Mitkonsekratoren waren John Patrick Foley, Präsident des Päpstlichen Rates für die sozialen Kommunikationsmittel, und Francis Bible Schulte, Erzbischof von New Orleans.

Am 16. Dezember 1997 wurde er zum Bischof von Allentown ernannt und am 9. Februar des nächsten Jahres in das Amt eingeführt. Am 27. Mai 2009 nahm Papst Benedikt XVI. seinen altersbedingten Rücktritt an.
