Chav ist in Großbritannien eine abwertende Bezeichnung für Jugendliche und junge Menschen der britischen Unterschicht, die durch einen bestimmten Kleidungsstil und Habitus auffallen. Bei Männern gehören zum stereotypen Bild eines Chavs die Baseballkappe, protziger Goldschmuck, Turnschuhe, Jogginghosen und Imitate von Markenkleidung, oft Burberry. „Chavettes“ (weibliche Chavs) tragen Jogginganzüge oder Jeans und Jeansjacken. Chavs neigen zu asozialem Verhalten, also zu Verhaltensformen und Aktivitäten, die das Zusammenleben in einer Nachbarschaft nachhaltig stören, wie etwa Lärmbelästigung, Vandalismus sowie verbale und körperliche Angriffe. Der Begriff findet sich seit 2005 in englischsprachigen Wörterbüchern wie dem Oxford Dictionary und dem Collins English Dictionary, das eine Ableitung vom Romani-Wort chavi („Kind“) vermutet.
