Die JT International SA (auch Japan Tobacco International, kurz JTI) ist ein international tätiger Tabakkonzern mit Sitz in Carouge in der Schweiz.[2] Sie bildet das internationale Tabakgeschäft des japanischen Japan Tobacco Konzerns. JT International produziert und vertreibt für den internationalen Markt schwerpunktmässig Zigaretten der drei Marken Winston, Mild Seven und Camel sowie die Marken Benson & Hedges, Silk Cut, Sobranie of London, Glamour und LD. Darüber hinaus verkauft das Unternehmen unter den Marken Hamlet, Old Holborn und Amber Leaf sowie Gustavus Snus Zigarren und Zigarillos, Drehtabak bzw. rauchfreie Tabakprodukte.

JT International beschäftigt weltweit insgesamt rund 23'000 Mitarbeiter und verfügt über Büros an 80 Standorten sowie über 30 Produktionsbetriebe und Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentren. 2008 erwirtschaftete JT International bei einer Produktion von 452 Milliarden Zigaretten einen Umsatz von 10,6 Milliarden US-Dollar und steuerte damit mehr als 70 Prozent am Umsatz bzw. 50 Prozent am EBITDA des gesamten Japan Tobacco Konzerns bei.[1]

In Deutschland ist der Konzern durch die JT International Germany GmbH mit Standorten in Trier und Köln vertreten.

Geschichte

JT International wurde 1999 im Zuge der Übernahme der bereits in Genf angesiedelten internationalen Tabakaktivitäten von R.J. Reynolds durch Japan Tobacco gegründet.[2][3] Die im April 2007 vollzogenen Übernahme der britischen Gallaher Group durch Japan Tobacco, die als bislang grösste Auslandübernahme eines japanischen Konzerns gilt, verlieh JT International einen Wachstumsschub mit einer mehr als Verdoppelung des Umsatzes gegenüber 2006.[4][5][6]
