Joy to the World ist eines der beliebtesten und bekanntesten Weihnachtslieder aus dem angelsächsischen Sprachraum.
Den Text verfasste Isaac Watts (1674–1748) im Jahre 1719 (Die Psalmen Davids in der Sprache des Neuen Testaments für den christlichen Stand und Gottesdienst) nach dem zweiten Teil des Psalms 98. Die Musik basiert auf dem Chor "Hoch tut euch auf" im Messias von Georg Friedrich Händel (1685–1759), und wurde von Lowell Mason (1792–1872) im Jahre 1836 adaptiert und arrangiert.
