Linked Ring

Die Brotherhood of the Linked Ring war eine Vereinigung, die sich der Entwicklung der Fotografie zum künstlerischen Ausdrucksmittel verpflichtet fühlte.

Sie bestand von 1892 bis 1909. Ursprünglich eine Abspaltung der Royal Photographic Society, gegründet von A. Horsley Hinton und vier weiteren Fotografen, erweiterte sich der Kreis der Mitglieder bald über das Vereinigte Königreich hinaus um beispielsweise Robert Demachy, Hector Colard, Alfred Stieglitz, Fred Holland Day und Hugo Henneberg.[1] Die Werke ihrer Mitglieder variieren stilistisch stark, doch ist der Pictorialismus am stärksten vertreten.

Hauptaktivitäten waren eine monatliche Versammlung, bei der ästhetische Fragen diskutiert wurden, und eine jährliche Ausstellung ('Photographic Salon'). Als das Hauptziel der Vereinigung, die Förderung der Kunstfotografie, erreicht war, löste sie sich 1909 auf.
