Die Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) sind ein staatliches Eisenbahn-Unternehmen, das in Nordirland unter dem Dach der Organisation Translink, zu der auch Busgesellschaften gehören, Bahnverbindungen in bzw. zwischen Derry, Belfast, Bangor und nach Dublin (in der Republik Irland) anbietet.
Entstanden ist das Unternehmen 1968 aus der Ulster Transport Authority. Es besitzt ein Gleisnetz von ca. 350 Kilometer Länge und befördert 5,9 Millionen Fahrgäste im Jahr (Stand 2000/2001). Die Northern Ireland Railways bieten Arbeit für 700 Beschäftigte. Da das Streckennetz nicht elektrifiziert ist, werden die Lokomotiven ausschließlich mit Dieselkraftstoff betrieben. Eine Fahrt von Belfast nach Dublin dauert ca. 2 Stunden 20 Minuten. Da das Bahnnetz in Irland allgemein nicht sehr dicht ausgebaut ist, werden mit der Bahn nicht direkt erreichbare Ziele oft von Überlandbussen, beispielsweise durch Bus Éireann, angefahren.
