Black Cat Bone

Black Cat Bone ist eine Bluesgruppe aus Tübingen.

Konzerte der Gruppe sind mittlerweile rar geworden, weil der Frontman Hans-Jörg Müller die amerikanische Sängerin Susan McMinamin geheiratet hat und nach Florida/USA ausgewandert ist. Dort veröffentlicht er unter dem Namen seiner Ehefrau McMinamin Blues und arbeitet als Sessionmusiker u.a. für Junior Marvin, Downchild Blues Band und Reed Waddle.

Der Name der Band bedeutet "Knochen einer schwarzen Katze" und kommt in verschiedenen Bluessongs vor, so zum Beispiel bei "Hoochie Coochie Man" von Muddy Waters. Es gibt auch einen Song von Johnny Winter mit dem Titel "Black Cat Bone". Dieser Knochen ist, ähnlich wie Mojo, ein Bestandteil der afroamerikanischen Hoodoo-Überlieferungen. Diesen zufolge muss eine schwarze Katze nach einem starken Regen im Dunkeln gefangen werden und dann so schnell wie möglich in einen Wald gebracht werden. Dort wird sie in einen Kessel gefüllt mit kochendem Wasser geworfen, der noch nie dem Tageslicht ausgesetzt sein durfte. Im Morgengrauen werden dann der Reihe nach alle Knochen der verendeten Katze durch den Mund gezogen, bis einer von ihnen bitter schmeckt. Dieser ist dann der black cat bone. Angeblich kann man sich mit diesem Knochen Unglück vom Leibe halten.

Besonders interessant sind die CDs "Blue Shadows" (1994) mit Chris Farlowe, sowie "Taylormade" (1997), die mit Mick Taylor, dem früheren Leadgitarristen der Rolling Stones, eingespielt wurde.

Die Gruppe gibt es inzwischen nicht mehr in der Originalbesetzung bzw. unter dem Namen Black Cat Bone, sondern unter dem Bandnamen Black Cat Bone Rhythm Section.
