Bacon, Lady Anna

Bacon, Lady Anna, Lady Anna, Tochter Sir Anthony Cooke's, ist in der Grafschaft Essex ungefähr 1528 geboren. Sie war Erzieherin des nachherigen Königs Eduard VI., und mit Sir Nicolas Bacon, Lord Großsiegelbewahrer von England, vermählt. Lady Anna spielte unter den Gelehrten ihrer Zeit eine bedeutende Rolle, und legte frühzeitig eine Probe ihrer Gewandtheit in fremden Sprachen ab, indem sie 25 Predigten des Bernardino Ochino aus dem Italienischen übersetzte, die 1550 im Druck erschienen. Zur Zeit des tridentinischen Concils hatte der gelehrte Bischof Jewel eine Schutzschrift für die englische Kirche in lateinischer Sprache verfaßt; eine Uebersetzung dieser Abhandlung von Lady Anna Bacon erschien in mehreren Auflagen zu London 1561 und 1610. Das Jahr ihres Todes ist nicht bestimmt anzugeben, es fällt aber höchst wahrscheinlich um die Zeit des Regierungsantrittes Jakob's des Ersten.
