Bram Stoker Award

Der Bram Stoker Award ist ein Literaturpreis, der von der Horror Writer's Association (HWA) seit 1987 jährlich für außergewöhnliche Beiträge zur Horrorliteratur verliehen wird. Die Gewinner werden per Wahl von den Mitgliedern der HWA bestimmt.

Der Name wurde zum Gedenken an Bram Stoker, den Schöpfer von Dracula, gewählt.

Einigen Mitgliedern der HWA, einschließlich Dean Koontz, widerstrebte es zunächst, eine solche Auszeichnung ins Leben zu rufen, da man fürchtete, dass dies zu Konkurrenzverhalten führen könnte. Daher einigte man sich, insbesondere neue und bislang vernachlässigte Autoren zu würdigen. Außerdem sollte nicht nur ein Autor als „Bester des Jahres“, sondern es sollen herausragende Leistungen auf verschiedenen Gebieten geehrt werden.
