Intarabus, auch Entarabus, ist eine keltische Gottheit der Treverer, alle bekannten Inschriften stammen aus einem relativ begrenzten Raum rund um Luxemburg.

Mythologie

Intarabus wird in insgesamt neun Weiheinschriften genannt. Eine davon wurde auf einer Statue aus dem Kohlenrevier von Foy (Arrondissement Bastogne in Belgien) gefunden (Sockelinschrift „deo intarabo“)[1]. Ebenso sind derartige Inschriften in der Nähe von Trier, dem ehemaligen Gebiet der Treverer, bekannt. In Luxemburg gibt es einen Fund aus der Gegend von Echternach[2], einen weiteren, allerdings unsicheren, aus Mackwiller im Elsass, wo er den Beinamen Narius trägt[3]. Intarabus wird nach der Interpretatio Romana mit Mars gleichgesetzt[4], aber eventuell auch mit der keltischen Gottheit Narius.[3]

Etymologie

Der Name soll sich nach Xavier Delamarre aus den protokeltischen Wörtern enter („zwischen“) und ab(us) („Fluss“) zusammensetzen.[5] Allerdings wird die Herkunft des Namens allgemein als unklar bezeichnet.
