Der New Music Award (bis 2009: RadioAward für neue Musik) ist ein mit 10.000 Euro dotierter Preis für Nachwuchsmusikgruppen. Er wird seit 2008 von den Jugendsendern der ARD-Radioprogranmme verliehen.

Hintergründe

Der Preis wurde erstmals 2008 von MDR Sputnik, You FM und Radio Fritz unter dem Namen RadioAward für neue Musik verliehen.[1] 2010 kamen mit Bremen Vier, Dasding, N-Joy, on3-radio und 103.7 UnserDing fünf weitere der so genannten „jungen Radioprogramme“ der ARD hinzu, seit 2011 nimmt 1 Live als neunter Sender teil. Durch Abstimmung der Hörer schlägt jeder der beteiligten Radiosender einen Finalisten vor. Seit 2010 findet das Finale im September im Rahmen der Auftaktveranstaltung der Popkomm in Berlin statt. Die ausgewählten Künstler führen drei Lieder auf und werden von einer Jury bestehend aus Vertretern der beteiligten Sender sowie Personen aus der Musikindustrie bewertet. Der Sieger erhält einen Scheck über 10.000 Euro für Ausrüstungsgegenstände.

Aus der Musikindustrie sind meist Bandmanager und Musikproduzenten in der Jury vertreten, aber auch bekannte Musiker wie Joy Denalane.
