Lloyd Stowell Shapley

Lloyd Stowell Shapley (* 2. Juni 1923 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) ist ein US-amerikanischer Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und Mathematiker. Er ist emeritierter Professor an der University of California, Los Angeles. Sein Publikationsgebiet ist die mathematische Ökonomik, insbesondere die Spieltheorie.[1]

Leben

Der Sohn des Astronomen Harlow Shapley erhielt seinen Ph.D. 1954 an der Princeton University.[2] Der Ökonom arbeitete von 1948, mit einer Unterbrechung (1950 bis 1953), bis 1981 für die Rand Corporation. Seit 1981 hat er eine Professur an der University of California in Los Angeles inne. Als wichtige Beiträge[3] des Wissenschaftlers gelten u.a. der Shapley-Wert[4] und der Shapley-Shubik-Index[5]. Der im Zweiten Weltkrieg für die Entschlüsselung sowjetischer Funksignale mit dem Bronze Star (1944) ausgezeichnete Shapley erhielt für seine Forschungsleistungen 1981 den John-von-Neumann-Theorie-Preis.[6]
