Der Sonche (spanisch Río Sonche) entspringt oberhalb im gleichnamigen Distrikt Sonche (Chachapoyas), ca. 60 km von Chachapoyas in den nordperuanischen Anden entfernt.

Zum Beschiffen ist er zu klein, wird aber z. B. bei Molinopampa intensiv zur Fischwirtschaft genutzt.

Hin und wieder gibt es Probleme mit der Wasserqualität, da der gesamte Müll und ein großer Teil des Abwassers von Chachapoyas im Sonche entsorgt werden.
