Die DIN-Norm DIN 31635 (Umschrift des arabischen Alphabets) ist eine Norm für die Transkription der arabischen in die lateinische Schrift.
Sie beruht auf der Umschrift der Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft (DMG) von Carl Brockelmann und Hans Wehr. Sie wurde 1936 auf dem Internationalen Orientalistenkongress in Rom angenommen.
Wesentliches Merkmal dieser Transkription ist, dass jeder lateinische Buchstabe einen bestimmten arabischen Buchstaben repräsentiert. Daher spricht man auch von einer Transliteration, einer buchstabentreuen Umschrift.

Die Vokalzeichen (harakat) fatḥa, kasra und ḍamma werden als a, i, u transkribiert. Ein šadda ergibt ein Geminat (doppelter Konsonant) außer beim arabischen Artikel, der mit Sonnenbuchstabenassimilation geschrieben wird: aš-šams.
Ein alif, das [a:] gelesen wird, wird zu ā transkribiert. Tāʼ marbūṭa (ﺓ) am Wortende als -h bzw. -t. ʾAlif maqṣūra (ﻯ) erscheint als ā, so dass es nicht mehr vom alif unterscheidbar ist. Die Langvokale [i:] und [u:] werden als ī und ū umschrieben. Das Nisba-Suffix wird -īy-; die Nunation entfällt in der Transliteration. Ein Bindestrich wird verwendet, um morphologische Elemente zu trennen, insbesondere Artikel und Präpositionen.
Die arabisch-indischen Ziffern (٠ ١ ٢ ٣ ٤ ٥ ٦ ٧ ٨ ٩) werden mit ihren europäisch-arabischen Entsprechungen (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) wiedergegeben.
